My name is Charlie, I'm from the UK and I will be jetting off to New York in three weeks to spend a year working and studying in the USA as part of a work/study programme run by the Mountbatten Institute.
I visited NYC back in 2013, and absolutely fell in love with the city. I honestly thought I would hate it, that it wouldn't live up to expectations I had from watching Gossip Girl, Friends, and one of my favourite films What Happens in Vegas, but the city didn't just meet my high expectations.. it surpassed many of them. I started dreaming about what it would be like to work in the Big Apple, pursuing my dream of an international career.
When I saw the programme advertised on a careers website I couldn't believe my eyes. I actually applied back in March, whilst I was still studying at university, and though the process has been pretty long I am so excited! I am hoping that this blog can provide me with a sort of diary of my year, and I want to share my experiences in order to provide a unique perspective on work, study and American culture. I hope that you will enjoy reading and please share your thoughts or suggestions via:
I currently have the LONGEST TO-DO LIST in the history of to-do list so I should probably start organising myself in preparation for the year.
Until next time!
